Biography

I have both a behavioral/cognitive and vascular neurologist with dedicated to improving brain health through research advances and clinical care. My major research interests are: the neurocognitive consequences of brain vascular disease, acute stroke treatment, stroke prevention, brain imaging, and clinical trial design. In these areas I have authored over 870 research articles, 3 books, and 40 book chapters. I served as principal investigator of the NIH-NINDS FAST-MAG trial, Global Co-PI of the SWIFT PRIME trial, and Chair of the American Heart Association Stroke Council. I am currently Associate Editor at JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association and Editorial Board Member at the journal Circulation, and a recipient of the American Heart Association’s Distinguished Scientist Award, the US Clinical Research Foundation’s Clinical Research Award, and the World Stroke Organization Lifetime Research Award.
